How to Keep Hair Bows in Place

By Stephanie Brown, About.com

Lindsey in Austin, Tex., writes:

"If you have a girl with little to no hair or lots of soft hair a bow will not stay in. Put a dab of corn syrup (like Karo brand) on the underside of a bow or ribbon and place it where you want on your baby girl's head. Let it dry for about five minutes and don't let your baby lay on it or rub it while it's drying.

It will not move the rest for the day. To get it off you have to wash baby's hair or get it wet. I love this trick because people used to always ask if my daughter was a boy or girl. She has little hair but what she does have is blond so you can’t see it. Now all I get from people is, 'She is so beautiful!' "

Thanks so much for that tip, Lindsey. This is a trick my mom used to use on me as a baby because my hair was so fine. It didn't help that I was wearing the hand-me-down clothing of my many older brothers, either. She said people always thought I was a boy until she started using the Karo syrup.

If you have a parenting tip you'd like to share, please send it my way and I will publish it here on the site.
